MARVEL STAR JONATHAN MAJORS GUILTY OF ASSAULTING GIRLFRIEND IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASE
US actor Jonathan Majors has been conclusively found guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend following a jury trial in New York.The actor, known for his role as Kang in Marvel movies, was judged to have attacked British choreographer Grace Jabbari during a domestic altercation in March.
Ms Jabbari testified that she sustained injuries including a fractured finger, bruises, a cut behind her ear, and endured 'excruciating' pain.
The jury deliberated for three days before announcing their verdict, which declared Majors guilty of two charges: assault by recklessly causing physical injury and harassment.
However, they acquitted him of charges of aggravated harassment and assault with intent to cause physical harm.
The prosecution illustrated a pattern of emotional and physical violence aimed at exerting control over Ms Jabbari, sharing voice recordings and messages.
During the case, Majors sent a text claiming, "I'm a monster.
A horrible man.
Not capable of love," while threatening suicide.
The actor did not testify at trial, and his legal team argued he was the victim, alleging Ms Jabbari assaulted him out of jealousy.
Majors was sentenced to up to one year in jail, and Marvel announced he will not be starring in upcoming movies, including the delayed Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
The court also issued a protection order barring him from contacting Ms Jabbari.
After the verdict, her lawyer expressed her satisfaction, stating she was "gratified to see justice served," and that her testimony, despite being painful, might inspire other victims to come forward.
Sentencing is scheduled for February.
