GLASGOW MAN CAUGHT SENDING EXPLICIT MESSAGES TO DECOY
A man named Jonathan Kimmet, aged 46, from Rutherglen, was caught engaging in online sexual communication with what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.He had been in contact with a decoy posing as a child between July and October 2022.
During their conversations, Kimmet sent explicit images of himself and asked personal questions, including if she wanted to 'chat naughty.' The conversations moved to WhatsApp, where he furthered his inappropriate behavior by sending an intimate picture.
The vigilante group, ASA Scotland, confronted Kimmet in Drumchapel Shopping Centre, and the incident was live streamed, attracting a crowd and leading to police involvement.
Kimmet pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to charges of sending written sexual communications to a person he believed to be a child and attempting to cause a child to view a sexual image.
The court heard details of the communication, including questions about a boyfriend, clothing, and whether she slept without pyjamas, as well as explicit exchanges.
Kimmet is currently on the sex offenders register, and his sentencing has been deferred pending background reports for next month.
