JONATHAN GRADEN'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN LONDON: RAPE CASES IN SPITALFIELDS AND BEYOND
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into sexual offenses in London, Jonathan Graden, a 29-year-old man from Hackney, has been found guilty of multiple serious crimes, including a rape that occurred in 2011 and a more recent assault in the Spitalfields area of Tower Hamlets.Graden's criminal activities came to light after a series of investigations that linked him to two separate incidents of sexual violence.
The first incident took place on February 5, 2011, when a 24-year-old woman was walking along Dyers Hall Road, E11.
According to reports, Graden approached her from behind, pushed her to the ground, and proceeded to commit a rape while banging her head against the pavement.
This assault was particularly disturbing due to its brutality and the fact that the victim was alone at the time.
The second incident, which garnered significant media attention, occurred on November 9, 2018, in the Spitalfields area of Tower Hamlets.
The victim, a woman in her early twenties, was walking alone when she was approached by Graden on Hanbury Street.
He followed her into a building and committed a rape in the basement.
The attack lasted approximately 20 minutes before Graden left the scene.
The similarities between the two cases prompted a thorough investigation by the police.
Law enforcement officials conducted extensive CCTV enquiries, which proved instrumental in tracking Graden’s movements.
Surveillance footage revealed that after the 2018 attack, Graden took a taxi to Belvedere in south-east London.
As part of their media campaign, officers released CCTV images of the suspect, which led to public recognition and a significant breakthrough.
The police also distributed hundreds of leaflets in the area where the taxi dropped Graden off, which ultimately resulted in him voluntarily surrendering to authorities.
Graden was arrested on December 21, 2018, on suspicion of rape.
The following day, he was formally charged and remanded in custody.
He appeared before Bexley Magistrates’ Court on December 24, 2018, before being transferred to Snaresbrook Crown Court.
On January 21, 2019, Graden pleaded guilty to the charges against him, including the 2011 rape.
His case was scheduled for sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on July 19, with the court remanding him in custody until then.
The legal proceedings highlight the persistent efforts of London police to bring offenders to justice and protect the community from such heinous crimes.
