JONATHAN EMMOTT FROM KEIGHLEY JAILED FOR EXPOSED BEHAVIOR IN BRADFORD AND KEIGHLEY
In a disturbing series of incidents that have shocked the local community, Jonathan Emmott, a 51-year-old man from Keighley, has been sentenced to prison after a pattern of indecent exposure and threatening behavior involving children.The events took place in both Bradford and Keighley, highlighting a troubling pattern of misconduct that has now culminated in a significant custodial sentence.
Emmott's criminal activities came to light following two separate incidents in 2017.
The first occurred on March 30 in Bradford, where he was seen exposing his genitals in front of two 12-year-old girls.
The second incident happened on June 17 in Keighley, where he again engaged in similar behavior, this time in front of four children, including one of the girls from the earlier incident in Bradford.
The fact that one of the children present in Keighley was the same 12-year-old girl involved in the Bradford incident added a further layer of concern to the case.
During the court proceedings, prosecutor Gbemiro Igunnubole detailed the gravity of Emmott's actions.
He stated that Emmott, who resides on West Bank Close in Braithwaite, had not only exposed himself but also made threats towards the 12-year-old girl who was a witness in the first case.
The prosecutor highlighted that Emmott's threatening behavior extended to the father of the other 12-year-old girl involved in the Bradford incident, who confronted Emmott after learning about his actions.
Mr.
Igunnubole emphasized that alcohol was a factor during both incidents, describing Emmott as heavily intoxicated.
On the second occasion, witnesses observed him swaying and appearing visibly drunk as he approached the children.
Two of the children ran away from him in fear, and during the encounter, Emmott dropped his trousers to his knees, exposing his genitals to the children, including the girl from Bradford.
Following his arrest on the day of the second incident, Emmott was taken into custody, interviewed, and denied all charges.
It was revealed that he had a prior criminal record, with three convictions for four separate offences, including a previous conviction on June 23 of the previous year for public nuisance and indecent exposure.
At that time, he received a 12-month conditional discharge, which he was now in breach of due to the recent offences.
Judge David Hatton QC addressed Emmott directly during sentencing, condemning his repeated and disturbing behavior.
The judge remarked, “You seem to have an unhealthy and unpleasant habit of exposing your genitals to children, causing them obvious distress.
It is clear that only a custodial sentence can be appropriate.” As a result, Emmott was sentenced to a total of 15 months in prison.
The breakdown of his sentence includes four months for the incident in Bradford on March 30, six months for the Keighley incident on June 17, two months for intimidating a witness, and three months for breaching his previous conditional discharge.
Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order to prevent further offenses of this nature.
