MAN JAILED FOR 'SUSTAINED' ASSAULT ON NOW EX-PARTNER
John Young, a 41-year-old resident of East Side Avenue, Bearpark, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after committing a repeated and prolonged assault on his former partner.
The incident took place after Young became upset because she visited a friend, prompting him to send her a hostile message and then physically attack her when she returned.
Durham Crown Court was told that Young punched her, stomped on her multiple times, and inflicted injuries he later claimed were unintentional.
However, Judge Ray Singh rejected Young's account of the events and convicted him of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Additionally, a five-year restraining order was imposed.
Young pleaded guilty to the assault, which was described as a sustained attack.
