Whitchurch Child Sexual Abuser
John Wiltshire, a man once celebrated for his contributions to the community in Whitchurch, is now facing severe legal consequences following his admission of multiple serious crimes. Wiltshire, aged 64, who had previously been honored with a community award for his dedication to youth work, is currently under investigation for a series of sexual offenses committed against a young girl.

Last week, at Winchester Crown Court, Wiltshire pleaded guilty to ten separate charges, which include engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16. These acts reportedly took place over a span of approximately two and a half years. In addition to these sexual offences, Wiltshire also confessed to possessing and creating a large number of indecent images of children—more than 6,000 in total. These illicit images were discovered on multiple devices, including a computer, a laptop, and a USB memory stick.

The court proceedings on June 25 revealed that Wiltshire admitted to five counts of sexual activity with a minor, one charge of taking indecent photographs of children, and four counts of making indecent images of children. The scale of his illegal activities was highlighted by his own admission of possessing an extensive collection of indecent images, which the authorities uncovered during their investigation.

Wiltshire was known publicly as a founding member of the Whitchurch Youth Project, an organization established in September 2005 aimed at supporting the young population of the town. His efforts in the community earned him recognition; notably, in 2008, Wiltshire received a community award from the then-Mayor of Whitchurch, Councillor Steve Robbins, for his work with the youth project and for running a club called Chill 2 This, which catered to children aged between 10 and 14.

Historically, the Chill 2 This club enjoyed popularity, attracting weekly attendance of between 60 to 100 young people. Wiltshire’s involvement in youth activities placed him at the heart of the community for many years.

However, his reputation has been drastically marred by these revelations. Wiltshire, who resides on Evingar Road in Whitchurch, resigned from his position as the leader of the youth club on April 5 of this year. Following his resignation, a new leader was appointed to oversee the club's activities. Despite his departure, the organization and its members continued to operate under new leadership, with parental awareness being maintained through letters informing them of Wiltshire's resignation.

During the court proceedings, Wiltshire also denied one charge of sexual assault and two counts of sexual activity with a minor. These additional charges have been accepted by the prosecution as part of the plea agreement.

The court has adjourned Wiltshire’s sentencing until July 13, pending the compilation of pre-sentence reports. Meanwhile, he remains in custody and is set to appear again for sentencing. Presiding judge Jane Miller cautioned the court regarding the sentencing outcome, stating, “Clearly, it is going to be a substantial custodial sentence. The question is how long.” Wiltshire’s remand in custody continues until his next court appearance, as the judiciary considers the severity of his crimes and appropriate punishment.
