'ABUSIVE' HAMPSHIRE STALKER 'FLOODED' WOMAN'S PHONE WITH HUNDREDS OF CALLS
A court case revealed that a stalker, known for aggressive conduct, made hundreds of phone calls to his target over just four days.John White, aged 32 from Nettlestone, Nettley Abbey, holds five convictions out of eleven offences, all related to domestic disputes.
His past offences include throwing eggs at an ex-girlfriend and violating harassment and restraining orders.
Prosecutor Emily Lanham told Southampton Crown Court that White attempted to contact his victim 160 times on July 6 this year.
The woman received about 60 calls the next morning.
She also previously received around 450 calls from a number that was blocked but believed to be from White, Miss Lanham explained.
According to the court, White followed his ex as she drove along Hythe roads, overtaking her several times and deliberately slowing down to impede her progress.
At one point, he even drove onto a grass verge to try to get ahead.
The woman escaped to her sister’s house, but White tried to force entry by opening the door.
When arrested, he admitted he was “not an angel.” He was charged with stalking creating fear, alarm, or distress, dangerous driving, and criminal damage.
White pleaded guilty to these offences during an earlier court hearing.
The prosecution described his conduct as part of a recurring pattern of abusive behavior in his relationships.
Defense attorney Christopher Pix said White had admitted guilt early and shown remorse.
He argued that the case indicated the severity of the offences might warrant custody but urged a suspended sentence.
Mr.
Pix added that the victim had contacted White, indicating she was contemplating self-harm.
Judge Christopher Parker QC noted White’s excessive calls between July 3 and 7.
He stated that White claimed he wanted to talk, but the victim clearly did not wish to communicate.
The judge sentenced White to ten months in prison and disqualified him from driving for nearly two years.
He will also be under supervised release for a year after his release.
