In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing dangers of online grooming, John Vanstone, a 63-year-old man from Sunderland, was caught attempting to meet a minor for sexual activity after engaging in explicit conversations with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl.

The incident unfolded in February 2022, when Vanstone made contact with a fake profile operated by the Child Online Safety Team, posing as a young girl named Megan on the Meetville app.

According to court reports, Vanstone initially believed he was communicating with an 18-year-old, but the profile explicitly stated that Megan was only 14.
