2006: A man convicted of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to three years in prison.
During sentencing, the judge remarked, "You have taken away this boy’s childhood and cast a shadow over his adult life." John Smith, 52, residing on Pendeen Close in Tydesley, admitted to charges of sexual assault and was ordered to be on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
Judge David Boulton pointed out that while some testimonials painted Smith as a "model citizen" and "a thoroughly decent man," his actions had caused significant harm.
Prosecutor Lee Bonner told Liverpool Crown Court that the incident occurred at Smith's residence.
Following the assault, the boy, upset and crying, ran downstairs and disclosed what had happened to others.
Police were alerted, and forensic testing of the boy’s clothing verified his account.
Defense lawyer Jason Smith emphasized that his client had no prior convictions and expressed that John Smith was very ashamed of his misconduct and regrets it deeply.
