Newcastle Darlington Rapist
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Darlington and Newcastle, John Sanderson, a man with a disturbing history of sexual offenses, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 15 years for his heinous crimes involving two young boys. The offences took place at a teachers' centre located in Darlington, where Sanderson, who was employed as a college caretaker at the time, committed these grave acts.

During the sentencing hearing at Teesside Crown Court, Judge Tony Briggs addressed Sanderson directly, emphasizing the severity of his actions and the ongoing danger he poses to society. Despite this, Sanderson appeared indifferent, shrugging his shoulders as the judge declared that he would remain a significant threat for many years to come. The court also ordered that Sanderson be placed on the sex offenders' register for life, a measure designed to monitor his activities closely. Furthermore, upon his release, his recall license will be extended for an additional ten years, ensuring continued oversight.

Sanderson, aged 35, was convicted last month on multiple charges, including two counts of rape, three counts of serious sexual assault, and one count of indecency with a child and indecent assault. These crimes were committed over a period spanning from February 1990 to May of the previous year. Notably, he was acquitted of two additional rape charges involving one of the victims, but the court found sufficient evidence to convict him on the other counts.

Details of the victims' harrowing experiences reveal the extent of Sanderson's predatory behavior. One of the boys attempted to take his own life, overwhelmed by the trauma inflicted at the Northgate Centre in Darlington. The other victim has publicly blamed Sanderson for his descent into drug addiction at the age of 15. The victims recounted that Sanderson would pick them up in his Ford Capri, which had blacked-out windows, and kept a bottle of chloroform hidden in the college cellar. The first time Sanderson administered the drug, he poured it into white dust masks and instructed the boys to wear them. When they awoke, they found themselves alone in separate rooms, partially undressed and traumatized.

Throughout the proceedings, Sanderson, who previously resided in Darlington and now lives on Dunholme Road in Newcastle, denied all allegations made against him. His defense was that he was innocent of the charges, but the court's verdict and sentencing reflect the gravity of his crimes and the impact on his victims.
