LEICESTER TEACHER JOHN ROYLEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND DISTRIBUTION OF INDECENT IMAGES
In December 2022, a disturbing case involving a Leicester-based supply teacher and private tutor, John Royley, came to a conclusion with his sentencing for multiple child sex offences.Royley, aged 46 and residing on Salcombe Drive in Leicester, was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate and illegal activities involving minors, leading to a five-year prison term.
Investigations into Royley's conduct began in 2020 after authorities received a report concerning a man who was communicating sexually with an 11-year-old girl via social media platforms.
The police quickly identified Royley as the suspect, noting that he was operating under an alias on the platform to conceal his identity.
This initial report set off a detailed investigation that uncovered a disturbing pattern of behavior.
During the course of the investigation, law enforcement officers seized multiple electronic devices from Royley's residence, including a tablet, a laptop, and several mobile phones.
Forensic analysis of these devices revealed the presence of over 1,200 indecent images of children, a number of which were classified as among the most extreme types of child exploitation material.
Additionally, authorities discovered that Royley had distributed approximately 330 indecent images, some of which had been deliberately erased after distribution, indicating an attempt to conceal his activities.
Importantly, police clarified that none of the indecent images found on Royley's devices depicted children he had directly taught or interacted with professionally.
