JOHN RIGG FROM BARROW SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY
In a case that has shocked the community of Barrow, John Rigg, a resident of Risedale Road, was found to be in possession of indecent images of children on his personal computer. The investigation began after authorities received intelligence suggesting that Rigg, aged 53, was either accessing or creating such illicit material at his home address.
On April 17, 2019, police officers executed a search warrant at Rigg’s residence, seizing a black tower computer believed to be the source of the illegal content.
Subsequent examination of the device revealed a disturbing collection of images, including two classified as Category A, one as Category B, two as Category C, and notably, an extreme pornographic image.
The latter depicted a person engaging in a sexual act with a dog, an image that police confirmed was realistic enough that a reasonable observer would believe the depicted individual and animal were real.
Rigg was brought before South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in June, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of a child, along with possession of an extreme pornographic image.
His guilty plea led to a sentencing hearing at Preston Crown Court, where the court imposed a two-year community order on him.
Additionally, Rigg was subject to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for five years.
This order requires him to notify police of any changes to his name or address and any plans to travel outside the United Kingdom.
Failure to comply with these notification requirements constitutes a criminal offense.
Furthermore, Rigg was fitted with an electronic monitoring device that enforces a curfew, restricting his movements to his home between 9 pm and 6 am until September 4.
This measure aims to monitor his activities closely and prevent any further potential offenses.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of illegal and harmful images, especially those involving minors and extreme content, within the community of Barrow and beyond.
