JOHN RIGBY AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN KENT
A man identified as John Rigby has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two young girls in the county of Kent. The disturbing case was heard at Maidstone Crown Court, where details of Rigby’s offenses emerged, revealing a pattern of abuse that spanned several years.
According to court reports, Rigby, aged 53 and residing on Grasmere Grove in Rochester, engaged in inappropriate and criminal conduct towards one of the victims over an extended period.
The court heard that Rigby assaulted the girl, and in an attempt to silence her and prevent her from disclosing the abuse to her mother, he provided her with what was described as 'hush money.' This act of coercion and manipulation added a further layer of severity to his crimes.
The case also involved allegations that Rigby had molested a second girl, further compounding the seriousness of his actions.
The prosecution, led by Simon Taylor, presented evidence that Rigby had caused one of the victims to engage in sexual activity, along with multiple counts of indecent assault and indecency with a child.
During the trial, Rigby denied six charges of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, ten counts of indecent assault, and six counts of indecency with a child.
Despite his denials, the jury found him guilty of all charges except one, which involved causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
That particular charge was left on the court’s file, indicating it was not pursued to a conviction.
The court’s decision to sentence Rigby to six years behind bars reflects the gravity of his offenses and the impact on the victims.
The case has drawn significant attention to issues of child protection and the importance of reporting abuse, especially when it involves trusted individuals within the community.
Rigby’s conviction and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and support for victims of sexual abuse, particularly in local communities across Kent where such crimes can often go unnoticed or unreported for years.
