In a disturbing incident that has shocked the community of Middlesbrough, John-Paul Lynch was handed a 30-month prison sentence following a violent assault on his former partner. The assault took place amidst a heated argument that erupted after a wedding celebration, leaving residents in shock and concern for the safety of those involved.

According to court reports, the confrontation began on the way home from a family wedding reception. During this altercation, Lynch's behavior escalated dramatically. It was revealed that he physically grabbed his partner by her hair while she was seated on the toilet, an act that marked the beginning of a series of aggressive actions. The situation quickly spiraled out of control as Lynch accused her of infidelity, a claim that added fuel to the fiery exchange.

Witnesses and neighbors described hearing loud shouting and witnessing Lynch punching a wall mirror in a fit of rage. He then declared that his partner would not leave the premises, further intensifying the confrontation. The violence reached a horrifying climax when Lynch forcibly pulled a bedroom door from its hinges and hurled it at her. The impact caused her to sustain a 4cm head wound, which was severe enough to cause significant blood loss and unresponsiveness. Neighbors, alarmed by her condition and the blood covering her, feared she might have been fatally injured. Emergency services were called, and she was rushed to James Cook University Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

During her victim personal statement, she expressed her devastation over Lynch's actions. She described her feelings of betrayal and fear, especially noting her distress when she was left lying on the pavement, bloodied and unresponsive, after Lynch's departure. Her account underscored the brutality of the attack and the emotional trauma inflicted.

Initially, Lynch denied any involvement in the assault, attempting to dismiss the allegations. However, he later pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful wounding in court. It was also revealed that Lynch has a history of prior convictions, including offenses related to domestic violence, criminal damage, and breaching a restraining order. The court responded to the severity of his actions by imposing a five-year restraining order to prevent any future contact with his former partner.

The judge described the incident as 'appalling' and expressed strong condemnation of Lynch's behavior. The court noted that Lynch appeared to have 'lost the plot' that evening, emphasizing the seriousness of his conduct and the impact it had on his victim and the community of Middlesbrough.
