WOMAN-BEATER JOHN MORTIMER PLEADS FOR JAIL TO GET HELP
John Mortimer, a man with no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend Chantelle Baillache of Lenham and threatening to kill her.The incident followed her ending their six-month relationship in October due to his controlling and jealous behavior.
According to claims presented in Maidstone Crown Court, Mortimer physically assaulted Ms.
Baillache after she refused to visit his house, knocking her to the ground, chasing her, and punching her repeatedly in the face.
He continued to harass her afterward and even wrote a letter in custody stating, "I just want to end her life.
Yes, I mean murder.
I really do need your help to avoid a serious crime being committed on my release." The prosecution revealed Mortimer had 17 convictions for 35 offences, including threats to kill and assaults on former partners, with a prior three-year jail sentence in 2008 for breaking into a woman's home armed with a hammer and knives, causing damage and threatening her.
During sentencing, Judge Jeremy Carey acknowledged Mortimer's unusual request for a lengthy sentence to seek help for his issues, and he was sentenced to three years.
The judge also issued a restraining order banning Mortimer from contacting Ms.
Baillache and visiting Lenham.
