MAN JAILED FOR ATTACKING PARTNER WITH A RED HOT COOKER RING
John McKinlay, 37, was jailed for three years at the High Court in Edinburgh after admitting to assaulting his lover, Carol-Ann Wilson, with a wooden pole, grabbing her by the hair, forcing her over a cooker, and holding her head against a red hot ring.
The court heard that he beat Ms Wilson, who has a scarred scalp and arm from the injuries, in their home at Robert Burns Avenue, Clydebank, last October 8.
The attack left her with full-thickness burns needing skin grafts over a 4cm by 4cm area, and she is awaiting a skin graft on her arm.
Ms Wilson, who forgave him and wanted him back despite her injuries, begged the judge not to send him to prison.
Nevertheless, Lord Woolman emphasized that domestic abuse is a matter for the community and must be appropriately sentenced, noting that her forgiveness only limitedly influences the punishment.
McKinlay was also ordered to be under supervision for a year after his release.
