JOHN MCGUINESS FROM WESTON-SUPER-MARE CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND BOASTING ONLINE

In December 2019, a man from Weston-super-Mare, John McGuiness, was sentenced to over two years in prison for possessing indecent images of children and related offences.

The case revealed disturbing details about his online activities and the extent of his illegal collection of child abuse material.

John McGuiness, who resides on Anson Road in Locking, appeared before magistrates in November 2019 to admit to 11 sexual offences.

His admission came after a police investigation that uncovered his involvement in viewing and sharing indecent images on the dark web, a hidden part of the internet often used for illicit activities.

On December 11, at Bristol Crown Court, McGuiness was sentenced to a term of two years and eight months in prison.

The police investigation, which began in 2017, uncovered a significant collection of illegal material stored on McGuiness’s devices.

His laptop contained a staggering 990 images classified as Category A, the most severe rating for child abuse images.

Additionally, 777 Category A movies were found on his devices.

The authorities also discovered over 2,000 images categorized as B and C, along with approximately 400 movies fitting those classifications.

These figures highlight the extensive nature of his illegal collection.

Further disturbing evidence revealed that McGuiness had once boasted about sexually abusing a child online.

Court proceedings also disclosed that he had engaged in conversations with two women via Skype, during which he claimed to have sexually abused a child and joked about committing further acts.

Prosecutors described how McGuiness used sophisticated methods to conceal his online activities, including the use of 'onion routing' software, which is often employed by criminals to hide their internet traffic.

Despite these efforts, he was identified after a chatroom website reported him for sharing indecent images of children.

During the investigation, police seized multiple devices from his home, including a Samsung mobile phone, an HP laptop, and a memory stick.

These devices contained the illegal images and movies, confirming his involvement in the distribution and possession of child abuse material.

The prosecution detailed that McGuiness had searched for terms such as 'cute boys and girls,' 'boylover.org,' and 'paedo support community,' indicating his interest in and support for illegal activities involving children.

In addition to the images, McGuiness admitted to possessing three prohibited images of children and eight extreme pornographic images depicting bestiality involving dogs and horses.

His actions and online conversations painted a disturbing picture of his intentions and interests.

The court was informed that he continued to engage in conversations about abusing children even while at work, further emphasizing the seriousness of his offences.

Judge Steve Mercer, presiding over the case, granted McGuiness unconditional bail but scheduled his sentencing for December 11 at Bristol Crown Court.

The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and highlights the disturbing extent of some offenders' activities within the Weston-super-Mare area.
