JOHN LEADBETTER IN ABERYSTWYTH SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES

A former Special Constable in Aberystwyth has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses. John Patrick Leadbetter, aged 64, who is believed to have served in Aberystwyth for several years and also resided near Llanybydder, was convicted at Swansea Crown Court for offences committed in the Aberystwyth area.
Leadbetter initially appeared in Aberystwyth Magistrates Court in December 2016, where he faced 20 charges, some dating back over a decade. At that time, he listed his address as Beili Villa in Llanllwni, Llanybydder.
The charges included seven counts of sexual assault, seven counts of inciting a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, four counts of attempted rape, and two counts of rape. After a trial, Leadbetter was convicted of four counts of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, four counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, and three counts of attempted rape. However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on seven other charges.
The judge sentenced Leadbetter to 10 years in prison, with an additional year on extended licence. Additionally, he received a separate five-year sentence to run consecutively.
