Newtown-in-St Martin Child Sexual Abuser
In a case that has shocked the local community, John Raymond Lawman, a 69-year-old resident of Newtown-in-St Martin, has been sentenced to prison after admitting to possessing an alarming number of indecent images and videos of children. The court proceedings revealed that Lawman was found to have accumulated more than 7,900 such illicit materials, which spanned all three categories of severity, from the least to the most extreme forms of child exploitation.

These offences were committed over a period stretching from January 2014 to September 2015, highlighting a prolonged period of illegal activity. Lawman, who was previously divorced, had recently remarried a woman from Kenya and had relocated to the African country, with plans for a new life that were ultimately thwarted by his arrest and subsequent sentencing.

During the hearing at Truro Crown Court, it was disclosed that Lawman had admitted to 12 separate charges related to the possession of indecent images of children. The court was informed that the images and videos were stored on his personal computer, which was confiscated and ordered to be destroyed as part of his sentence.

In an effort to prevent him from fleeing the country, the court mandated Lawman to surrender his passport immediately. At the time of his arrest, he provided a UK address in Newtown, St Martin, on the Lizard Peninsula. The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order on Lawman, requiring him to comply with strict restrictions and to sign the sex offenders’ register.

Ultimately, Lawman was sentenced to eight months in prison. His criminal activities and the severity of his offences have prompted authorities to take further measures to monitor his conduct, reflecting the seriousness with which such crimes are treated in the UK.
