FALKIRK SEX OFFENDER JOHN KANE CAUGHT WITH VIDEO NASTIES IN SHOPPING CENTRE AND TESCO
In May 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving John Kane, a pensioner from Falkirk, who was found guilty of secretly filming women and children in public spaces.Kane, aged 67, was caught engaging in these illicit activities in a local Falkirk shopping centre and a Tesco store, raising serious concerns about privacy and safety in the community.
According to reports, Kane used a covert lens to capture footage of women’s lower bodies, focusing on their legs and bottoms.
The videos, each approximately 50 seconds long, depicted women from the waist down, with some zooming in on their intimate areas.
The disturbing nature of his recordings extended beyond adult women, as police uncovered longer videos—some lasting up to three minutes—featuring children aged between six and 12 years old playing in Falkirk’s Central Retail Park.
One such video showed a young girl performing cartwheels, with the camera zooming in on her crotch area, highlighting the disturbing intent behind these recordings.
Kane’s arrest was initially made on an unrelated matter, but during police custody at Falkirk Police Station, officers discovered his attempt to dispose of a micro SD card by flushing it down the toilet.
This act led to further investigation, revealing that the card contained approximately 60 short videos, ranging from 30 seconds to three minutes in length.
The footage was traced back to Falkirk shops, with the camera angles starting from the ground and zooming in on women’s bottoms.
The videos also included footage of children at the nearby Central Retail Park, with one showing a girl doing a cartwheel and the camera focusing on her crotch.
Further inquiries at Kane’s residence uncovered a pair of shoes matching those seen in the videos, strengthening the evidence against him.
When questioned about the footage, Kane admitted that he might have taken some of the videos, but he could not recall specifics regarding the children.
He explained that he had been drinking at the time and acknowledged that the recordings had aroused him, though he expressed feelings of guilt afterward.
Following his guilty plea to the charges, Falkirk Sheriff Court deferred sentencing until March 30 to allow for a comprehensive social work report and a restriction of liberty assessment.
Sheriff Craig Caldwell imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, banning Kane from possessing any cameras or mobile phones capable of recording videos for five years.
Additionally, Kane was placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years and subjected to 18 months of supervision.
Sheriff Caldwell issued a stern warning, stating, “Any breaches and it’s very likely I’ll send you to prison,” emphasizing the seriousness of his actions and the potential consequences if he reoffends.
