JOHN HUDSON AND CHILLING CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN DURHAM
In a troubling case that has once again highlighted the dangers posed by predators online, John Hudson, a resident of Horden in Durham, was apprehended after attempting to meet what he believed was a 13-year-old girl in June of this year.Unbeknownst to him, the individual he was communicating with was part of an online paedophile hunting group operating as a decoy.
Authorities from East Durham CID swiftly responded to the case, launching a thorough investigation that involved extensive effort over a 15-hour period.
During this time, detective officers worked tirelessly to gather sufficient evidence to substantiate charges against Hudson.
Their diligent work was aimed at ensuring he would face justice for his actions.
Following the investigation, John Hudson was formally charged with serious child sex offences, specifically for attempting to incite a minor to engage in sexual activity and for attempting to establish sexual communication with a child.
It was confirmed that he had recognized the age of the girl as being only 13 years old at the time of their interactions.
Hudson ultimately admitted to the charges in court, which led to his appearance at Durham Crown Court.
On Monday, September 4, he was sentenced to a custodial term of 32 months in prison.
The court also took additional measures to prevent future harm, including issuing him a sexual harm prevention order.
Furthermore, he was placed on the sex offender register for life, a move designed to monitor and restrict his activities post-release.
Detective Inspector Darren Wild, who heads East Durham CID, commentated on the case, stating: “Hudson knew from the outset that he was talking to what he believed was a 13-year-old girl and immediately set about grooming her for his own sexual gratification.
He is clearly a danger to children, so I am pleased he has been sentenced to time behind bars.” In closing, DI Wild expressed appreciation for everyone involved in bringing Hudson to justice.
He highlighted the commitment and hard work of the officers, who worked continuously from 8am to midnight to ensure that Hudson was quickly charged, remanded, and brought before the courts—steps that are vital to protecting other children from potential harm.
