JOHN HENRY BRAZIL OF CHICHESTER DIES IN ADDINGTON, SUSSEX
John Henry Brazil, also known as Gypsy John Henry Brazil and now deceased, was born on June 24, 1998, and lived at The Hawthornes, Clayton Lane, Chichester PO20 8JQ. In 2019, he was convicted of failing to care for a bay mare, which resulted in unnecessary suffering due to neglect of her poor bodily condition. Brazil admitted to the offence, which involved neglecting to address the underlying causes of the horse’s poor health. His sentencing included 160 hours of unpaid work, 20 rehabilitation sessions, and a total of £385 in costs and charges. Additionally, he was banned from keeping horses for three years.
In an update from The Argus in January 2020, Brazil was seen back in court for failing to comply with his community order. He admitted to breaching the order by missing an office appointment on October 21, 2019, and not completing unpaid work on November 24, 2019. Consequently, his community order was revoked, and he was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison for causing unnecessary suffering to the protected animal—a bay mare—by neglecting her condition at Clappers Lane, Earnley, between August 26 and October 26, 2018.
Further information from the Chichester Observer in August 2021 reported that Brazil was found dead in a field at Meadow Crest Farm, Addington. An inquest held in July 2022 revealed that he died from cardiac arrest caused by blunt facial trauma and alcohol intoxication. The toxicology report indicated high alcohol levels in his system, and witnesses confirmed he was 'under the influence.'
The post-mortem examination discovered that Brazil, who was 23 years old at the time, had facial bruising possibly from a punch, along with a fractured nose and a lacerated lip. Several individuals were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter but were released due to insufficient evidence. The investigation was concluded with the death recorded as occurring under "circumstances unknown," with the coroner ruling that Brazil’s death was due to a cardiac arrest following blunt facial trauma and alcohol intoxication.
