GREENOCK PENSIONER CONVICTED OF DECADES OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A paedophile pensioner from Greenock has been convicted of a series of depraved sexual offences involving two children, one of whom was targeted repeatedly over a span of 20 years. The offender, John Griffin, committed numerous historic crimes including performing sex acts on children, indecent assault, exposing his private parts, touching himself, and engaging in lewd, indecent, and libidinous behaviour.
It was also revealed that Griffin paid one of his victims money in exchange for sexual activity.
One victim enduring abuse for over two decades stated that the abuse started when he was just 11 years old, beginning in a cupboard and involving various acts of sexual misconduct by Griffin.
During the trial, an audio recording was played where Griffin admitted to some of his crimes, stating that he 'had a crush on him' and acknowledging the underage nature of the victim.
In court, Griffin denied the allegations, claiming they were 'fabricated lies,' but the jury unanimously found him guilty on all six charges.
Sheriff James Varney sentenced Griffin, noting that he had been found guilty of significant sexual offending over a period of 20 years and that a custodial sentence was likely.
Griffin, aged 71, was released on bail and is scheduled for sentencing in October following the preparation of a criminal justice social work report.
