JOHN GIFFIN FROM LONDON AND TORQUAY JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In September 2011, a disturbing case of sexual assault involving a man named John Giffin has come to light, resulting in a significant prison sentence. Giffin, aged 54, was convicted of heinous crimes against a young girl who was only 14 years old at the time. The incident unfolded over a period during which Giffin, a debt collector, manipulated and groomed the teenage girl while he was responsible for babysitting her. His actions culminated in him persuading her to engage in full sexual acts, despite the fact that he was three times her age.

Giffin's criminal behavior did not cease there; he continued to have sexual relations with her until she was nearly 17 years old. The case revealed a pattern of predatory conduct that exploited the vulnerability of a minor, causing significant emotional and psychological harm.

At the time of his arrest and subsequent trial, Giffin was residing in Greenwich, London, but he was previously known to have lived on Lichfield Road in Torquay. He faced multiple charges, including four specimen counts of rape, which he admitted to during proceedings. His admission of guilt led to his sentencing at Exeter Crown Court.

During the sentencing, Recorder Jonathan Fuller, QC, delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the severity of Giffin’s misconduct. He stated, “Such was the distorted thinking you introduced to this girl, she came to believe she was in a relationship with you and you encouraged her to think it was perfectly normal.” The court sentenced Giffin to 14 years in prison, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the breach of trust involved in his abuse of a minor.
