JOHN GEARY, THE FOUR-TIME MURDERER, IN PRISON PROTECTION IN CO LAOIS AFTER WARNING FROM INMATES
In July 2013, John Geary, a man convicted of four murders, is currently held in protective custody at Midlands Prison in Co Laois after inmates warned him, saying, “You’re a dead man walking.” The 37-year-old, known for stabbing to death his baby daughter, her brother, his ex-girlfriend, and her friend, is now in isolation following threats from fellow prisoners.Geary had pleaded guilty on the previous Monday to the quadruple homicide of ex-partner Sarah Hines, aged 25, their five-month-old daughter Amy, Sarah's brother Reece, aged three, and 20-year-old Alicia Brough.
All four victims were discovered dead at a residence in Hazelgrove, Newcastle West, Co Limerick, on November 15, 2010.
Geary was subsequently arrested and charged with their murders.
According to a prison source, Geary fears for his safety and requested that staff place him on 23-hour lock-up.
The source explained, “Geary is hated by inmates at the Midlands Prison.
It doesn’t matter what crime they have committed themselves, anyone who kills a child is seen as the scum of the earth.
His life is going to be made hell by other prisoners in there.
He is in isolation now after he was told to watch his back by other inmates.
Jail bosses don’t take threats like that lightly and decided to put him on the protective wing of the jail for his own safety.” The case was taken before Mr.
Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court when lawyer Hugh Hartnett informed the judge that a jury would not be needed, as Geary had pleaded guilty to all four counts of murder.
The horrific events unfolded after a retired Garda received a call, later traced to a public phone box in Kilkee, Co Clare, informing him of the murders at the house.
Alicia Brough had recently moved into the Hazelgrove property with her friend Sarah.
Recalling Alicia, her father Peter Rolfe said she was a “princess,” adding, “She didn’t have a bad bone in her body.
She was up for life.”
