Brechin Child Sexual Abuser
In January 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving John Dall, a resident of Brechin, who was found to possess an alarming collection of nearly 20,000 illicit images depicting child abuse and bestiality. The authorities uncovered this disturbing stash during a police raid on Dall’s home in Angus, revealing the extent of his involvement in such heinous material.

Police officers acted on confidential intelligence that suggested Dall was storing indecent images. A search warrant was executed at his residence, where he was the only person present. During the investigation, Dall was candid with the officers, reportedly stating, “There’s no point in not being honest with you. I have done what you have said.”

At Dundee Sheriff Court, Dall, aged 42 and with no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to charges related to the possession of these illicit images. Despite the gravity of the case, the sheriff decided against imposing a custodial sentence, citing Dall’s efforts to address his problematic behavior.

The court was informed that police seized various electronic devices, including a black Samsung phone and an SD card, which contained the illicit material. A thorough examination of these devices revealed a staggering number of images and videos. On the phone alone, investigators found 6,491 indecent images, of which 4,817 were accessible and categorized from A to C, involving young females ranging from infants to 15-year-olds. The videos associated with these images had a total runtime of one hour and 23 minutes.

Further analysis of the SD card uncovered an additional 11,256 images, with 10,845 accessible. Among these were 66 extreme pornographic images depicting adults engaging in sexual acts with animals such as dogs and horses. The severity of these images underscored the disturbing nature of Dall’s collection.

Dall was charged with permitting the taking or making of indecent or pseudo images of children between April 15 and September 27, 2019. He also admitted to possessing extreme pornographic images involving sexual acts with animals. His defense solicitor, Billy Rennie, acknowledged that there was little mitigation to offer but highlighted that Dall had been working with voluntary organizations to confront his issues.

In sentencing, Sheriff Tom Hughes imposed a community payback order with three years of supervision. Dall was also mandated to participate in the Tay Project and the Moving Forward Making Changes program, aimed at rehabilitation. The sheriff emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, stating, “These matters are very serious indeed and the court will make sure that young people are protected.”

Additionally, Dall was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of three years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk to the community.
