JOHN CLARKE FROM MANCHESTER CAUGHT IN SITTINGBOURNE CHILD SEX OFFENDER SCHEME
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers posed by convicted sex offenders, John Clarke, a man residing in Manchester, traveled a staggering 250 miles to Sittingbourne with the apparent intent of engaging in sexual abuse of a five-year-old girl.The incident unfolded in January 2016, when Clarke’s plans were thwarted by a police sting operation that led to his immediate arrest upon arrival at the local railway station.
Clarke, aged 35, had been in ongoing communication with an undercover police officer, whom he believed to be the mother of the young girl he targeted.
The conversations began in mid-September of the previous year, during which Clarke exchanged numerous indecent images of children with the officer.
Prosecutor Ian Foinette detailed the disturbing content, stating, “He said he liked little girls from four to women of 50,” and that he enjoyed trading explicit pictures and videos of young girls, often discussing sexual acts.
One particularly alarming message from Clarke read, “I would like your little girl and you together.
I would love to see you both naked.” Over the course of their communications, Clarke sent ten images, including one depicting child sexual abuse classified at the highest level of severity, along with two video clips of similar explicit content.
He also shared access to Dropbox and cloud storage accounts, providing the “mother” with further material of a highly obscene nature.
Clarke expressed his intention to travel to Sittingbourne on December 3, planning to stay for three days.
Evidence indicated that he had canceled a scheduled appointment at a job centre in Manchester to facilitate his trip.
On the day of his arrival, Clarke took a train to Sittingbourne in the afternoon.
As he stepped off the train, police officers, who had been monitoring the situation, approached him outside the station.
The officers then accompanied him to a nearby supermarket, where he was promptly arrested.
During police interviews, Clarke admitted to having a sexual interest in girls aged “four and a bit older,” confirming the disturbing nature of his intentions.
He appeared in court without legal representation and was asked by Judge Jeremy Carey about his sentencing.
Clarke responded, “I just want to know how long you are going to give me,” revealing his awareness of the gravity of his actions.
It was noted that Clarke had previously received a suspended sentence for a sexual assault on a child in 2010 and had undergone sex offender treatment.
During his interview, he remarked, “I was sitting in a room with eight paedophiles and a rapist.
It must do something to you.
I am not a prolific law breaker.” The judge decided to adjourn sentencing until February 18 to allow for a comprehensive assessment of Clarke’s dangerousness, emphasizing the seriousness of his predatory behavior and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
