JOHN CARTER FROM WIGAN SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE AND STEROID INJECTIONS AGAINST BOY
In September 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving John Carter, a 39-year-old man from Wigan, who was convicted of a heinous series of sexual offenses against a young boy.The court heard that Carter engaged in a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse over a span of two years, during which he also administered illegal steroid injections to his young victim.
According to court records, Carter would inject testosterone into the boy’s shoulders and buttocks, all while grooming him for sexual activity.
His manipulative tactics included befriending the child at a local gym, pretending to offer assistance with weight training, and showering him with gifts such as clothing and money to maintain his influence.
The grooming process was insidious, with Carter exploiting the boy’s trust and vulnerability.
Concerns arose among teachers and family members when the boy’s physical appearance changed dramatically, developing what was described as “the body of a man,” coupled with increased aggression.
These alarming signs prompted suspicion, leading to further investigation.
It was revealed that Carter had paid another child fifty pounds to take a blood test, falsely indicating the absence of steroids, in an attempt to allay fears from the boy’s parents.
John Carter, who previously worked as a fruit and vegetable seller and resided on Bolton Road in Aspull, was ultimately convicted of six counts of sexual activity with a child.
He was sentenced to ten years in prison at Manchester Crown Court last month.
During the sentencing, a victim impact statement was read, in which the young boy expressed feelings of worthlessness and described how the abuse had robbed him of his childhood.
He stated, “I wasn’t supposed to be the person I am now,” and shared that he has no happy memories of his teenage years.
The court was informed that the victim is now undergoing medication and counseling to cope with the trauma.
Prosecutor Neil Bisarya explained that the boy was allowed to sleep over at Carter’s home, which he shared with his partner.
The victim felt compelled to allow Carter to inject him with testosterone, feeling under his control.
The abuse included molestation during “play fights” and even shaving the boy’s body, with the assaults escalating in severity over time.
The boy’s mother expressed her anguish, revealing that she had a “gut feeling” something was wrong but did not suspect Carter’s “hidden, disgusting agenda.” She described the impact on their family, saying, “It has broken us.
Nothing is ever going to be the same.
The defendant took the life we had as a family.” As Carter was led away in court, members of his family in the public gallery wept and embraced each other.
Judge Michael Leeming sentenced Carter to ten years in prison, emphasizing the progressive and persistent nature of his misconduct.
Additionally, Carter was given an extended license period of six years upon release and will be registered as a sex offender indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
