JOHN BUNDOCK SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR ABUSE IN BRABOURNE LEES
In September 2010, a disturbing case unfolded involving John Bundock, a 72-year-old resident of Brabourne Lees, who was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to serious sexual offenses against two young girls. The case highlighted the calculated and manipulative nature of the offender, who had spent three years grooming his victims before their abuse was finally uncovered.Bundock’s sinister actions came to light when the two girls, both under the age of 14 and related to each other, confided in family members about the abuse they had endured. Their courage in coming forward was instrumental in exposing Bundock’s crimes, which had been carefully concealed for years. The victims had been manipulated into silence, with Bundock convincing them that if they revealed the abuse, they would not be believed and might even be taken into care, a tactic often used by predators to maintain control over their victims.
Following the revelations, Bundock was brought before Maidstone Crown Court, where he faced charges of sexual activity with a child under 13 and indecent assault on a child under 14. He did not contest the charges and pleaded guilty, leading to his sentencing last week. The court’s decision ensures that Bundock will serve a significant prison term, effectively preventing him from harming any more children.
Detective Sergeant Shaun Creed, a member of the Kent Police public protection unit, commented on the case, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and thorough investigation. He stated, “We will use every resource available to us in order to identify and investigate offenders who target children in this way. Offenders such as Bundock are devious and calculating – they rely on their young victims being too scared to report them.”
Sergeant Creed also expressed admiration for the bravery of the victims, saying, “I want to pay tribute to the victims in this case – both young girls displayed an enormous amount of courage and bravery in giving their accounts to investigators. It was their evidence that enabled us to bring Bundock before the court.”
He concluded by reassuring the public that the sentence would prevent Bundock from seeking out or targeting any further victims, providing some measure of justice and safety for the community of Brabourne Lees.
