JOHN ALLINSON FROM HALIFAX CAUGHT IN LUTON GROOMING SCHEME AND JAILED FOR 2 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online grooming and the importance of vigilant community efforts, John Allinson, a 55-year-old man from Halifax, was sentenced to a prison term of two years and eight months after traveling a significant distance to Luton with the intent of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.Allinson, who resided at Shaw Lodge, Shaw Hill, Halifax, had made arrangements to meet a girl he believed was only 13 years old.
The incident unfolded on Thursday, 20 October 2016, when he arrived at Luton railway station, expecting to meet the young girl at a pre-booked hotel.
However, his plans were thwarted when he was confronted by members of a vigilant community group, Katie and Neil Ivall, who had set up a sting operation after their own relative was a victim of online grooming.
According to the court proceedings, the Ivalls had created a fake Facebook profile under the alias Jessica Walters, claiming to be a 13-year-old girl.
It was through this account that Allinson initiated contact, beginning his grooming process on 10 July.
The prosecution revealed that Allinson had shown clear intentions of engaging in sexual activity, as evidenced by his communications and arrangements.
He had booked a hotel room for Saturday, 16 July, reportedly costing him £120, and explicitly told the supposed girl that he intended to have sexual relations with her.
Furthermore, he asked whether his daughter could join him in the hotel room overnight, indicating a disturbing level of premeditation and intent.
The court heard that he also inquired with the hotel about the possibility of his daughter accompanying him, further emphasizing his plans.
During the hearing, Judge Michael Kay QC condemned Allinson’s actions, describing his conduct as a well-planned operation aimed at exploiting a minor.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offense, stating, “You had a well planned operation to take a 13-year-old girl to a hotel to have sexual activity.” As part of his sentence, Allinson was ordered to register as a sex offender and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect indefinitely.
The case underscores the ongoing threat posed by online predators and the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
