JOHN ALISTAIR LLOYD FROM NEWBRIDGE-ON-WYE SENTENCED FOR GROOMING TEEN IN WELSH TOWN

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, John Alistair Lloyd, a 46-year-old man from Newbridge-on-Wye, was found guilty of grooming a 14-year-old girl from Haverfordwest for sexual purposes. The incident unfolded through online communications, where Lloyd engaged in a series of manipulative conversations with the young teenager, ultimately leading to physical meetings in Tenby.

According to court proceedings, the teenage girl initially made contact with Lloyd via an internet chatroom. Over time, their online interactions intensified, with Lloyd maintaining contact through mobile phone calls and sending 'top-up' cards to ensure her phone remained active and in credit. The girl, who kept her mother unaware of the true nature of her conversations, told her that she was speaking with a 16-year-old boy named John.

As their online relationship progressed, the girl sought and received permission from her mother to travel to Tenby to meet this boy. By then, she was aware of Lloyd’s actual age but continued to pursue the meeting. The first encounter took place at a hotel in Tenby, where the two met face-to-face. They engaged in conversation and shared a kiss, marking a significant escalation in their relationship.

They arranged a second meeting at the same hotel, during which Lloyd provided the girl with a large quantity of champagne. It was during this second encounter that Lloyd committed a sexual assault against her. The girl did not return home until 10 pm, which caused her mother to become concerned and annoyed. Lloyd then made a phone call, pretending to be the girl’s friend’s father, and falsely claimed that the delay was due to waiting for a female taxi driver.

It was eventually a friend of the girl who became suspicious and contacted the police, leading to Lloyd’s arrest. During the investigation, police found a woman’s bikini at his home, which Lloyd claimed belonged to his sister. He also admitted to cross-dressing, explaining that he occasionally wore women’s clothing.

Judge Christopher Morton, presiding over the case, stated that he would utilize new powers granted by the Attorney General concerning sex offenders who groom minors for sexual exploitation. Lloyd was sentenced to two years in prison and faces the possibility of being returned to jail for an additional six years if he re-offends. Furthermore, he was permanently banned from working with children, a restriction that will remain in place for life, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the community’s concern for safeguarding minors.
