April 2010 Child sex beast jailed A PERVERT convicted of a catalogue of abuse against young children has been jailed for 15 years. John Adams, 36, of Woodbrook Avenue, Mixenden, Halifax, was found guilty after two separate trials of rape, attempted rape and a series of indecency offences. Judge Jonathan Rose branded his offending depraved and disgusting. His father, Michael Mortimer, 67, also of Woodbrook Avenue, was jailed for a year, after being found guilty of one offence of indecent assault. Bradford Crown Court heard that Adams targeted three children as young as five and that the abuse spanned a 12 year period. His appetite was fuelled by viewing child pornography, being described as a loner who has never had a girlfriend and lived in the confines of his room. Judge Rose said: “It was there that you developed a depraved and perverted personality which has led you to commit this catalogue of sexual crime. He said Adams groomed the children and subsequently encouraged them to pose for “mock lesbian” pictures, which he told them would be used to start their modelling careers. On one occasion he anally raped a boy, aged 15, and attempted to rape a nine-year-old girl in the same way while another young girl watched. Judge Rose told Adams: “You are potentially a real danger to children who would suffer both physical and psychological harm were you afforded the opportunity to abuse them in the future.” Adams was put on the Sex Offender Register for life, banned from working with children and and was made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order. Mortimer, who was found guilty of touching a girl when she was 12, was put on the Sex Offender Register for 10 years and was also made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order. The court heard that the offence represented a sample of his offending. Judge Rose commended the victims in the case for their courage and bravery and his sentiments were echoed by DC Emma Summerscales who headed up the long-running investigation. Speaking outside court, she said: “We welcome the sentences handed down to Adams and Mortimer which reflects the extent the abuse these victims have suffered at the hands of these two men.”
