JOE JACKSON SCARBOROUGH BREAKS COURT ORDER IN SELBY HOUSE WITH CHILDREN
In a disturbing breach of legal restrictions, Joe Walter Jackson, a known sex offender from Scarborough, was found to be residing in a house in Selby where young children were present, despite a court order explicitly prohibiting such contact. The incident was brought to light during a court hearing at York Crown Court, where prosecutors detailed Jackson’s repeated violations of the restrictions imposed upon him.
Brooke Morrison, the prosecutor, explained that Jackson had been seen entering a room where children were sleeping on multiple occasions.
She further revealed that Jackson had previously offered to change the nappy of one of the children, an act that raised serious concerns given his legal status.
Morrison stated, “The defendant reported he had been there for a number of days so was effectively living with the child,” indicating a blatant disregard for the court’s directives.
Jackson, aged 24 and residing on Albemarle Road in Scarborough, was subject to a sexual harm prevention order following his 2020 conviction for grooming a child and engaging in sexual communication with a minor.
The order explicitly banned him from staying or sleeping in any residence where children were present without police permission, and also prohibited him from contacting any female child under the age of 16.
Despite these restrictions, Jackson was found to have violated the order, leading to his guilty plea for breaching the court’s directives.
Currently, he is serving a community order for previous breaches, but the latest incident prompted further legal scrutiny.
Judge Simon Hickey acknowledged the gravity of the breach but expressed reservations about immediate incarceration.
He noted that Jackson’s mental health issues, as outlined in a medical report, complicated the case.
The judge decided to defer sentencing for six months, giving Jackson an opportunity to comply with the court’s conditions and work with probation services.
Judge Hickey warned Jackson that if he refrained from further violations and engaged positively with the community order, he could receive a suspended prison sentence when he appears again on November 22.
During the hearing, Morrison highlighted an incident in April 2023 when a woman, aware of Jackson’s court restrictions, visited the house.
She was reportedly surprised to see Jackson there.
While at the residence, a young child entered the room requesting a nappy change.
Jackson offered to do so, but the child refused and ran out of the room, indicating a clear breach of the court order.
Jackson claimed that he was entering the room to retrieve a kitten that kept wandering into the sleeping area, a justification that did little to mitigate the seriousness of his violations.
