JODY PETRIE AND SHOCKING RAPE CASE IN FIFE AND ST ANDREWS
A man identified as Jody Petrie has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after being convicted of multiple sexual assaults targeting women in the Fife region. The High Court in Dundee heard detailed accounts of Petrie’s crimes, which involved attacking three women while they were asleep and under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The court proceedings revealed that Petrie, aged 37, denied all charges brought against him.
The incidents spanned a period from 2017 to 2021, with the assaults occurring in the towns of Tayport and St Andrews.
Despite his denials, a jury found him guilty of three separate counts of rape, each involving a different woman.
During the sentencing, Judge Lady Drummond emphasized the severity of Petrie’s actions, stating that he posed an ongoing threat to women.
She also noted that Petrie had shown no remorse for his crimes.
As part of his sentence, he will be subject to three years of supervised release following his time in prison.
Judge Lady Drummond expressed her concerns about the impact of Petrie’s crimes, stating, "You raped these women when they were at their most vulnerable.
They suffered not only the physical impact, but long-standing psychological harm." The court’s findings detailed that Petrie’s first known attack occurred in Tayport in 2017.
Subsequently, he was convicted of raping a second woman in St Andrews in January 2019, and a third woman in the same town in 2020.
Two additional charges related to sexual assaults were not proven by the jury, but Petrie was nonetheless placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities after his release from incarceration.
