CONVICTED (2024) | Job Tamar Keon Smyle (aka Job Clayton-Smyle), born c. 2000, of 14 Mallory Place, Humberstone, Leicester LE5 0HS – starved and neglected four Cane Corso adults and one puppy. Smyle came to the attention of the RSPCA in July 2023 after concerns were raised about the welfare of the five dogs in his care. Inspections found the animals were in poor condition, with the Cane Corso adults all severely underweight and had pressure sores. Veterinary examination found that the four adults were suffering from malnutrition which is estimated to have occurred over a minimum of four weeks. The Cane Corso puppy was also found to be underweight, but vets found she was in a healthier condition than the adult dogs. Smyle told the RSPCA he had lost his job and could only afford to give the dogs very cheap pet food. Smyle pleaded guilty to two offences under the Animal Welfare Act: causing unnecessary suffering and failing to address their poor conditions. Speaking after the case, RSPCA Inspector Allison North said: “When I first saw the adult dogs they all appeared to be very thin and I could easily see their ribs, hips and spines. “I am pleased to say that all dogs are now doing very well in our care and have all put on weight – they have now been signed over to us and we will look to find them new homes.” Sentencing | 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work. Ordered to pay £150 costs and £114 victim surcharge. No mention of a ban. LeicestershireLive
