JILL MELDRUM FROM JONES FACES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGE BOYS IN WARWICKSHIRE

Sentence WARWICKSHIRE TEACHING ASSISTANT JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST STUDENTA teaching assistant who engaged in sexual acts with a 15-year-old pupil has been sentenced to 32 months in prison.

Jill Meldrum-Jones, aged 37, committed several sexual offences against the boy during a flight and a school trip.

The misconduct came to light after rumors circulated, Coventry Crown Court was told.

Meldrum-Jones pleaded guilty to seven charges of sexual activity with a child and inciting sexual activity.

Prosecutor Stefan Kolodynski revealed that Meldrum-Jones sent text messages to the boy that referenced the incidents and discussed plans for further sexual encounters.

The court heard a victim impact statement indicating the boy, who cannot be named, has since felt very nervous and embarrassed.

Judge Philip Gregory described the case as 'almost beggared belief' that someone from her background — a happily married woman with two children and an apparently intelligent person — could lose control of her senses, stating this conduct was 'grotesquely out of character' for her.

In her defense, lawyer Simon Hunka said her actions were 'unbelievable in its riskiness' and might have been linked to depression or her mental state.

In November 2016, a middle-aged teaching assistant named Jill Meldrum, who was employed at a secondary school in Warwickshire, found herself at the center of a serious legal case involving allegations of sexual misconduct with minors.

The incidents reportedly occurred during a school trip, raising grave concerns about the safety and oversight of students during such activities.

Jill Meldrum, aged 37 and residing on Gardiner Road in Kineton near Stratford, was suspended from her position at the school once the allegations surfaced.

The case was brought before Warwick Crown Court, where she faced multiple charges related to her interactions with two teenage boys.

The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about her conduct, which has shocked the local community and raised questions about safeguarding measures at the school.

Regarding the first boy, Meldrum-Jones pleaded guilty to five separate charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child over four consecutive days.

Additionally, she admitted to two charges of inciting or causing the boy to participate in sexual acts.

These admissions indicate a pattern of grooming and inappropriate behavior that spanned several days, highlighting the severity of the misconduct.

However, Meldrum-Jones denied a further charge that accused her of sexually assaulting another boy by touching and squeezing his thigh.

Prosecutor Stefan Kolodynski requested additional time for the Crown to decide whether to pursue a trial on this particular allegation, citing the need for further investigation.

Judge Sylvia de Bertodano acknowledged the gravity of the guilty pleas, stating, “She has pleaded guilty to by far the most serious part of this matter.

It is difficult to see how a trial could be in anyone’s interest.” The judge’s comments underscored the seriousness of the offenses and the likelihood that Meldrum-Jones would face a custodial sentence.

In preparation for sentencing, the court agreed to adjourn the case until November 28 to allow for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.

During the hearing, Meldrum-Jones was granted bail under strict conditions, including a prohibition on any contact with the boys involved or any unsupervised contact with children under 16.

Notably, the court initially included her own children in this restriction, but Judge de Bertodano later lifted that condition, stating, “I can’t see why she can’t take her own children out for a walk.” Furthermore, Meldrum-Jones was ordered to cooperate fully with probation services in the preparation of the pre-sentence report.

The judge also issued a stern warning, emphasizing the potential consequences of her actions: “Don’t take from the fact that I’m bailing you now that it won’t be a custodial sentence, because that is the likely outcome of this.” As part of her legal obligations, she was also ordered to register as a sex offender, reflecting the court’s recognition of the seriousness of her offenses and the potential risk to the community.
