LEICESTER MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC HONOUR KILLING OF EX-FIANCEE
Jigukumar Sorthi, aged 24, was found guilty of killing his former fiancée, Bhavini Pravin, in Leicester.
The incident occurred at her residence after her family decided to cancel their wedding plans.
Sorthi stabbed Pravin four times in what authorities described as a deliberate act of honour-based violence motivated by revenge.
During the attack, her mother attempted to protect her by covering her with her body.
Leicestershire Police reported that Sorthi approached an officer soon after the stabbing and confessed to the murder.
He received a prison sentence of 28 years.
Judge Timothy Spencer QC characterized the killing as 'horrific, brutal and merciless,' pointing out that the young woman’s life was taken due to misguided pride and perceived shame.
The court also pointed out that Ms Pravin was a compassionate and devout individual, with her family mourning her loss profoundly.
