JESS DEAN IN NELSON BREACHES SEXUAL OFFENCES PREVENTION ORDER
In September 2017, Jess Dean, a convicted paedophile from Nelson, admitted to breaching the terms of his sexual offences prevention order by being in the same house as a 10-year-old girl.Burnley Crown Court heard that Dean, 61, committed the breach by being present at his former partner's home while her granddaughter was there.
The incident occurred earlier that year when police investigation revealed Dean's presence in the house on June 13.
Prosecutor Shirlie Duckworth explained that Dean's original SOPO, imposed in 2005, prohibited him from allowing anyone under the age of 17 to enter or stay in his residence.
The order was a consequence of his prior convictions for sexually assaulting a male child and indecently assaulting a male under 14, with Dean having received a 24-month prison sentence in 2011 for breaching the same order.
During police interviews, Dean admitted that the 10-year-old girl had been visiting the address after school because her mother found the after-school care too expensive.
Duckworth stated, "The defendant was interviewed by the police.
He admitted the child had been returning to that address after school because the child’s mother found the after school provision too expensive.
The arrangement was the defendant was working and was out of the house between 8am and 6pm.
Therefore he would not normally be present when the child was in the house.
But on this occasion he was.
The girl’s mother was present and she left after a few minutes." Judge Jonathan Gibson sentenced Dean to a two-year conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £200 in prosecution costs.
Additionally, the judge revoked Dean’s previous sex offences prevention order and imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his contact with anyone under the age of 16.
