It was established during the court proceedings that Gray had failed to seek veterinary assistance for Scooby’s injuries between September 11, 2020, and November 11, 2020. She pleaded guilty to a charge of neglecting her pet by not providing proper care and nutrition. The court heard that Gray’s neglect was a result of her attention being diverted elsewhere, and that her dog’s health had declined significantly as a consequence.
Gray’s legal representative explained to the court that she had acquired Scooby as a puppy, and as he aged, he appeared to prefer being outside. The lawyer also mentioned that the dog seemed to have a failing appetite, which may have contributed to his poor condition. The defense added that Gray was horrified upon learning about the extent of Scooby’s suffering and emphasized that he was a cherished animal.
