JEFFREY OWENS AND SHOCKING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN MANCHESTER
A man from Manchester, identified as Jeffrey Owens, has been sentenced to a substantial prison term after a thorough investigation conducted by the National Crime Agency uncovered his disturbing involvement in child sexual abuse.Owens, aged 44, was found to have engaged in heinous acts of assault against two children, with the abuse taking place over a series of occasions.
The investigation commenced after specialist NCA agents operating online traced conversations where Owens openly discussed his sexual interests in children.
His online activity revealed a disturbing pattern of communication with various users on different chat platforms, during which he detailed in great and troubling depth how he had assaulted the two minors multiple times.
Owens naively shared explicit details about the assaults, which included at least 11 instances during which he engaged in sexual activity in front of the children, threatening them to ensure silence.
Following his arrest in May 2020, authorities swiftly moved to gather further evidence.
The NCA investigators recovered Owens’ mobile device, which contained numerous incriminating chat logs.
These logs showcased his continued conversations involving plans or reflections on abusing children, as well as the sharing of indecent images.
The authorities also uncovered a vast collection of illegal material – over 4,000 indecent images of children, categorized from A to C.
Many of these images were stored across multiple devices, some of which Owens had personally taken himself using a clandestine camera, highlighting a disturbing premeditation and obsession.
The severity of Owens' crimes was expressed in the charges he faced earlier this year, to which he pleaded guilty.
His guilty plea covered 26 different offences, including sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, multiple counts of engaging in sexual activities in front of children, causing a child to watch a sexual act, voyeurism, and indecency with a child.
The court proceedings culminated in a sentencing at Manchester Minshull Street Court, where Owens was handed an eight-year and six-month prison sentence.
Additionally, he received a further four years of licence upon release, designed to monitor and restrict his future activities.
The court also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order on Owens, ensuring that he remains under strict supervision to protect the community.
Furthermore, Owens was placed on the sex offenders register for life, marking a permanent record of his crimes.
Mark Barrow of the National Crime Agency expressed strong condemnation of Owens’ actions, describing him as a persistent offender who deliberately sought out opportunities to satisfy his deviant interests.
Barrow emphasized that Owens had exploited the innocence of children, assaulting them and coercing them into silence through threats and blackmail.
The NCA’s efforts have successfully removed such a dangerous individual from society, but officials continue to stress the importance of industry responsibility in preventing similar crimes.
They call for greater vigilance and proactive measures from online platforms to detect and prevent the spread of child sexual abuse material, in an ongoing battle to safeguard vulnerable minors.
This case underscores the critical need for diligent law enforcement and community vigilance to protect children from predators like Jeffrey Owens, who abused trust and exploited innocence with devastating consequences.
