REDDITCH MAN JEFFREY HIMS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY

In a case that has shocked the Redditch community, Jeffrey Hims, a 63-year-old resident of Longfellow Close, was sentenced to a total of five years and six months in prison for serious criminal offenses involving a teenage boy. The offences, which spanned nearly a decade from 1992 to 2001, included nine counts of indecent assault against the young victim, highlighting a disturbing pattern of abuse during that period.

Hims appeared before Worcester Crown Court on Thursday, 17 May, where he pleaded guilty to all charges. The court sentenced him to five years for the indecent assaults, reflecting the gravity of his actions. Additionally, he received a consecutive six-month sentence for possessing extreme pornography, a crime he also admitted to. As part of his punishment, Hims has been ordered to register as a sex offender, a measure designed to monitor his activities and prevent further harm.

The case came to light after the victim, who had endured years of suffering, bravely came forward in February 2012 to report the abuse. The police investigation was initiated following this disclosure, leading to Hims’s arrest. During the search, authorities discovered a collection of videotapes belonging to Hims, which contained pornographic material of an extreme nature, further evidencing his involvement in criminal activities.

Detective Inspector Leighton Harding of West Mercia Police expressed gratitude towards the victim for their courage in reporting the abuse. He emphasized the importance of such bravery in bringing offenders to justice. DI Harding stated, “We would like to thank the victim for having the bravery and resolve to contact us and help us bring this case to court. Hims abused a position of trust in order to commit these terrible offences and deserves to lose his liberty.”

He also highlighted the broader significance of the case, noting, “The seriousness of his crimes is reflected by the sentence he has received. We hope that seeing the likes of Hims convicted and put behind bars will help other victims of sexual abuse to have the confidence to take steps to end their suffering and get in touch with the police.”

Finally, DI Harding reaffirmed the police’s commitment to investigating historical abuse cases, stating, “The case shows that even when such abuse has happened years ago, we will thoroughly investigate it and pursue a prosecution whenever possible.”
