JAY THOMSON'S BRUTAL ATTACK IN GLASGOW'S EASTERHOUSE LEADS TO THREE-YEAR SENTENCE
A man named Jay Thomson has been sentenced to three years in prison following a horrifying assault on a one-year-old girl in Glasgow's Easterhouse area. The incident, which took place in July 2022, involved a prolonged and severe attack that left the young child with multiple injuries and lasting trauma.
According to court records, Thomson, aged 30, subjected the toddler to a series of violent acts after she refused to stop crying.
The court heard that Thomson was displeased with the child's persistent crying, describing her as 'too clingy' and telling her to 'snap out of the crying and whingeing.' In a disturbing display of violence, Thomson repeatedly covered the child's face with a blue blanket, held her face down on a mattress, and slapped her bottom.
These actions resulted in visible bruising and bleeding, with the child screaming for her life during the ordeal.
The assault did not stop there.
The court was told that Thomson also inflicted injuries to the child's forehead and foot, further adding to her suffering.
The young girl’s distress was palpable, with witnesses describing her as having screamed loudly as she endured the attack.
The injuries were severe enough to warrant hospital treatment, where medical staff observed extensive bruising across her forehead, thigh, leg, back, and foot.
Notably, there was also significant bruising to her buttocks, and a possible bite mark was identified, indicating the brutality of the assault.
In addition to the attack on the child, Thomson also assaulted a woman present at the scene.
The court heard that the woman was too terrified to intervene during the assault but eventually managed to escape with the toddler.
Her escape was not without incident, as Thomson reportedly grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face.
The woman explained that she was initially unable to leave earlier because she had given Thomson her bank card and had no access to money, which kept her trapped in the situation.
Once outside, the woman was able to flee with the child, who was then taken to hospital for treatment.
The medical examination confirmed the presence of bruises and injuries consistent with the assault.
The court also noted that Thomson admitted to assaulting the woman and the child, and he pled guilty to these charges at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Judge Andrew Cubie described Thomson as a 'coward' during a previous hearing and emphasized the seriousness of his actions.
Thomson was sentenced to three years in prison and was also placed under supervision for 12 months following his release.
Furthermore, a five-year non-harassment order was issued to prevent any further contact or intimidation involving the victims.
The case highlights the brutal nature of the attack and the lasting impact on the young girl and the woman involved.
