JAY MITCHELL MOORES FROM MOORES SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BARKING AND ILFORD
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Jay Mitchell-Moores, aged 18, of Moores, was convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a young girl from Barking.The incident came to light after a series of events that revealed a disturbing pattern of exploitation and abuse.
On the 3rd of May, the victim’s father returned home to a shocking scene: he found Mitchell-Moores in bed with his 13-year-old daughter.
The father immediately contacted the police, who arrived at the scene and questioned both Mitchell-Moores and the girl about what had transpired.
Despite their protests that nothing inappropriate had occurred, the police allowed Mitchell-Moores to leave the residence.
However, the father’s suspicions persisted, prompting him to scrutinize his daughter’s social media accounts the following day.
It was then that he discovered explicit messages exchanged between Mitchell-Moores and his daughter.
Concerned and alarmed, he reported his findings to the authorities.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, seizing Mitchell-Moores’s mobile phone.
A thorough examination of the device uncovered graphic images and videos depicting the offender engaging in sexual activity with the young girl.
This evidence was irrefutable and led to his arrest on May 5th.
Jay Mitchell-Moores faced charges of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and he pleaded guilty to two counts of such offenses at Snaresbrook Crown Court on August 3rd.
The court subsequently sentenced him on September 27th to a total of 18 months in prison—nine months for each count, to be served concurrently.
The sentence reflects the gravity of his actions and the serious breach of trust involved.
Detective Constable Monir Nainia, of the Sapphire unit within the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, led the investigation.
He described Mitchell-Moores as a “sexual predator who took advantage of a child and exploited her for his gratification.” He also praised the victim and her family for their bravery and resilience in supporting the case, emphasizing that the guilty plea was supported by substantial evidence.
DC Nainia concluded with a stern warning to potential offenders, stating, “I hope this conviction sends a clear message to those who prey on young and vulnerable people — you will be arrested and brought before the courts to face justice.” The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect minors from exploitation and to hold offenders accountable for their heinous crimes.
