JASONN HARRISON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN HARTLEPOOL
A man from Hartlepool has been sentenced to serve time in prison after engaging in disturbing online activities involving a minor.Jasonn Harrison, aged 54 and residing on Kesteven Road in Hartlepool, was convicted of serious sexual offenses related to the distribution of explicit videos and messages.
His actions came to light after he believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old boy, but in reality, he was speaking with officers from the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU) in collaboration with Cleveland Police.
Harrison’s arrest took place in January 2022, marking the beginning of a lengthy investigation into his online conduct.
On Monday, October 23, he appeared before Teesside Crown Court to face sentencing following his guilty plea in August.
The charges he admitted to include arranging or facilitating a child sex offence, possession of extreme pornography, and inciting or causing a child under the age of 16 to engage in sexual activity.
The court proceedings revealed the gravity of Harrison’s actions, which involved sending sexually explicit videos of himself along with graphic sexual messages to the person he believed was a minor.
The investigation uncovered that Harrison’s online communications were part of a deliberate attempt to exploit a young individual, although he was ultimately speaking to law enforcement officers.
Detective Inspector Leonard from NEROCU emphasized the importance of their work in combating online child exploitation.
He stated, “When sex offenders operate online, they think they can hide their crimes, but this case shows the lengths officers will go to protect victims and bring offenders before the courts.
This has been a long and thorough investigation by our team, and this result has meant a predator is now behind bars and potential victims have been prevented.” He further added, “Online offending is sadly on the rise, but our investigative skills and evidence gathering are constantly evolving.
We would always encourage anyone with information about this type of offending, or anyone who thinks they have been a victim, to come forward and talk to police – you will be supported.” Under the regional initiative known as Operation Sentinel, authorities continue to prioritize tackling serious and organized crime, including online child exploitation.
Detective Inspector Leonard concluded with a stern warning: “For those engaging in this type of behaviour, our message is simple – you will be caught, and you can expect a knock at the door from us.”
