JASON VELLA FROM STAFFORD SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN HOLLAND AND UK

In a case that shocked the Stafford community, Jason Vella, a man with a history of heinous crimes, was sentenced to an indefinite term for public protection after being convicted of multiple counts of rape. The incident involved a teenage girl who endured repeated sexual assaults, with Vella threatening her and her family to silence her about the abuse.

Vella, a father of three, had initially denied the allegations when questioned by authorities. The girl, feeling overwhelmed and frightened, eventually confided in her aunt, which led to police intervention. Vella was arrested in December 2009, but his legal troubles did not end there.

During the investigation, Vella was released on bail. However, he subsequently vanished, prompting authorities to take action. Prosecutor Mr. Bernard Linnemann revealed that Vella had fled abroad, specifically to Holland, and a European arrest warrant was issued in June 2011. The authorities tracked him down and arrested him in Holland on July 8 of that year.

At Stafford Crown Court, Vella, aged 39 and formerly residing on Hurlingham Road in Stafford, pleaded guilty to four counts of rape. One of these charges was a specimen charge, which involved more than a dozen separate incidents, highlighting the extent of his criminal behavior.

The victim, a young girl, provided a poignant victim impact statement, expressing that her life had been profoundly affected and essentially ruined by the ordeal. Her words underscored the lasting trauma inflicted by Vella’s actions.

Judge John Maxwell addressed Vella directly during sentencing, emphasizing the severity of his crimes. He stated, “I sentence you for public protection and you’ll remain in custody until the parole board considers it safe to release you.” The judge’s decision reflects the serious concern for public safety and the dangerous nature of Vella’s conduct, which led to his classification as a dangerous offender.
