JASON SWEENEY AND HIS HORRIFIC PREDATORY ACTS IN ESSEX
Jason Sweeney, a 25-year-old man from Chelmsford Avenue in Southend, has been sentenced to a prison term of four years and three months following his series of predatory behaviors and repeated violations of a court order imposed on him by Essex Police MOSOVO (Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders).Sweeney's troubling history with law enforcement officials in Essex initially drew attention in 2020.
Concerns about his conduct toward children and vulnerable adults prompted authorities to intervene.
In response, Essex Police issued Sweeney a Child Abduction Notice, an immediate intervention measure designed to prevent adults from engaging in harmful or predatory behaviors.
This notice aimed to restrict his movements and curtail potentially dangerous interactions.
Subsequently, police secured a Sexual Harm Prevention Order against him.
However, during a routine check on 28 August 2020, officers arrested Sweeney on suspicion of six counts of breaching this order.
Additionally, he was taken into custody on suspicion of two violations related to failing to comply with his sexual offender notification requirements—measures that had been legally imposed to monitor his activities.
During the course of their investigation following his arrest, officers uncovered evidence suggesting Sweeney had committed sexual offences against children.
He faced multiple charges, including eight counts associated with breaching the court orders and notification requirements.
Meanwhile, the MOSOVO team continued their investigation, which revealed further disturbing details: that Sweeney had engaged in sexual communications with a minor and had groomed a girl under 16 with the apparent intent of meeting her.
Sweeney ultimately pleaded guilty to these offences, and in recognition of his breaches, was sentenced to an additional eight months behind bars.
Despite serving this sentence, his problematic behavior persisted.
In February 2021, just two weeks after his release on license, Sweeney resumed his predatory conduct.
A risk assessment conducted by Essex Police’s MOSOVO team concluded that Sweeney, upon his release, almost immediately began grooming a young female victim.
This prompted a swift response, leading to his re-arrest and the renewal of restrictions against him for breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
He was then recalled to prison, where he served the remainder of his original sentence.
Following this, he remained in custody on remand, pending further legal action.
Most recently, on Friday, 30 September 2022, Sweeney faced the courts once again at Basildon Crown Court.
He was handed a further sentence of four years and three months in prison.
Additionally, Sweeney remains subject to a Sexual Offender Notification Order that will last for life, as well as an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, reinforcing the serious measures taken to prevent him from reoffending and to protect the community from his dangerous and predatory behavior.
