JASON SMITHERS FROM WESTON-SUPER-MARE SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Weston-super-Mare, a local chef named Jason Smithers has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The incident dates back to when the girl was just five years old, and the abuse reportedly spanned over a period of approximately four years.

Smithers, aged 27 and residing on Chaucer Road in Weston-super-Mare, faced multiple charges including attempted rape and 16 counts of indecent assault. Despite his initial denial of any wrongdoing, the court found him guilty of the charges after a detailed trial at Bristol Crown Court.

The judge presiding over the case, Michael Road, delivered a stern verdict, emphasizing the profound impact of Smithers' actions on the victim. He stated, “These assaults had a very severe effect on her. I’ve no doubt that they blighted her childhood.” The court heard harrowing details of the abuse, which involved inappropriate touching, coercing the girl into performing sexual acts, and the use of sex aids during the assaults.

One particularly disturbing incident involved Smithers playing a pornographic video in an attempt to force himself on the young girl. When she protested, pleading for him to stop and threatening to cry out for help, Smithers allegedly responded with a chilling remark: “There’s nobody there to hear you.”

As part of his sentencing, Smithers was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure intended to monitor his activities and prevent further harm. The court also determined that he would serve half of his nine-year sentence in custody, with the remaining period subject to parole and supervision conditions.
