VIOLENT & COWARDLY DOMESTIC ABUSER PUNCHED HIS PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND IN THE STOMACH WHEN SHE GOT HOME FROM HOSPITAL
Jason Mealey, a convicted domestic abuser with a criminal record involving two previous partners, assaulted his pregnant girlfriend by punching her in the stomach shortly after a hospital visit.Following his arrest, he continued to harass her while in custody by writing letters that urged her to drop her case.
These letters were sent under aliases of fellow inmates, and a judge condemned his actions as "frankly horrific" and "wicked".
According to court proceedings, Mealey’s relationship with the woman constituted a difficult period of about nine months during 2025.
Problems began about two months in, linked to his heavy drinking of several cans of super-strength cider daily.
Prosecutor Ben Stanley explained that Mealey, residing in Walton’s Well Brow Road, also misused prescription medication and frequently started arguments over trivial matters, which often turned violent.
He damaged property and threatened her, including suggesting he would have her shot if she called the police.
On December 3, last year, the woman sought medical help due to pregnancy concerns.
Mealey had left early because of his behavioural issues.
When she returned home at roughly 2 a.m., she found him intoxicated on the sofa.
During that encounter, he assaulted her hitting her arms and wrists and delivering two punches to her stomach.
His actions led to domestic abuse charges and remand into custody.
Yet, he persisted in contacting her through numerous phone calls, messages, 19 letters, and two cards, all aimed at persuading her to drop her support for the prosecution.
These communications were made under the names of other inmates and addressed using her middle name and mother’s maiden name.
The victim’s statement, presented in court, expressed her loss of faith in men due to Mealey’s conduct and her wish to move forward.
She criticised his blatant disregard for court-imposed restrictions and his ongoing attempts to reach her and her family.
Mealey’s criminal history includes five convictions for nine offences, such as breaching non-molestation orders, criminal damage, and witness interference related to past relationships.
He was also sentenced in 2024 to 46 weeks for breaching a non-molestation order involving another ex-partner.
Legal representative Lahraib Iqbal highlighted Mealey’s remorse and his efforts to engage with rehabilitation services in prison.
She mentioned his concern for his two youngest children, who are in foster care and expected to be adopted in July.
She noted that he has secured employment as a wing cleaner and that references describe him as diligent and dependable.
During his court appearance, Mealey admitted to charges of actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.
He appeared via video link from HMP Liverpool and received a sentence of two and a half years in prison, accompanied by a five-year restraining order.
