JASON LONGHURST YORK RAPIST ON THE RUN: POLICE STILL SEARCHING FOR SEX OFFENDER IN YORK AND BEYOND
In September 2021, authorities in North Yorkshire launched an extensive manhunt for Jason Vincent Longhurst, a dangerous sex offender who remains at large. The police efforts come after Longhurst was convicted of a heinous crime involving the rape and strangulation of a teenage girl over a decade ago.
Despite the conviction, Longhurst has not been apprehended, and law enforcement officials believe he could be anywhere across the country.
Longhurst, a resident of Lindsey Avenue in York, was found guilty earlier this month of the serious offenses committed more than ten years prior.
The court sentenced him to a term of nine years in prison, and additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the public.
However, Longhurst did not appear in person at York Crown Court for his sentencing.
Instead, he was tried and sentenced in his absence, prompting the court to issue a warrant for his immediate arrest.
Since then, North Yorkshire Police have been actively trying to locate him, but he remains elusive.
The authorities have issued a renewed appeal, urging anyone with information about his current whereabouts to come forward and assist in his apprehension.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that Longhurst's disappearance complicates efforts to ensure justice and protect potential future victims.
The police continue to investigate and follow leads, but the fact that he could be anywhere in the country makes the case particularly challenging.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings or relevant information to the authorities to aid in bringing Longhurst to justice.
