A MAN HAS BEEN JAILED FOLLOWING A SERIOUS DOMESTIC INCIDENT IN ST HELENS EARLIER THIS YEAR.
Jason Gardner, 29 years, of Grove Street in Edge Hill was sentenced to four years in prison and issued with a 10-year restraining order at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday 23 April.
Just after midnight on 25 January, officers were called to an address to reports of a woman who had been assaulted and sustained a laceration to her head and bruising to her face.
Gardner was arrested at the scene and later charged with two counts of intentional strangulation and suffocation, Section 20 wounding and possession of a bladed article in a public place, of which he pleaded guilty.
The victim received treatment in hospital and is continuing to recover from the incident.
After the sentencing, Detective Constable Adam Mulcahey, who led the investigation said: “This was a violent and sustained attack on victim who we are continuing to support her in what will be a long-lasting physical and psychological recovery.
